IllnessRx Healthcare App for Multi-State Patient Networks
Software Pro built IllnessRx's multi-state telehealth platform connecting patients and healthcare providers, with secure clinical workflows, HIPAA-compliant data handling, and a provider-facing care management dashboard.

Overview
About This Project
IllnessRx is a telehealth startup with an ambition to connect patients across multiple US states with licensed healthcare providers for non-emergency consultations, chronic condition management, and prescription refills. They needed a robust, compliant, and scalable platform that could operate across state lines while maintaining rigorous clinical and regulatory standards.
The Problem
What Needed Solving
Delivering compliant telehealth across multiple US states introduces compounding regulatory complexity, as each state has its own telemedicine practice standards, prescribing rules, and licensure requirements. IllnessRx needed a technology partner who could build a platform that handled this complexity intelligently while delivering a seamless patient experience.
Multi-State Regulatory Compliance
Managing provider licensure verification, state-specific prescribing rules, and telemedicine practice standards across multiple jurisdictions simultaneously.
Secure Clinical Data Management
Storing and transmitting patient records, consultation notes, and prescriptions in a fully HIPAA-compliant infrastructure with audit trails.
Provider Credentialing Workflow
Building a rigorous provider onboarding and credentialing system that verified licenses, malpractice insurance, and state authorizations.
Prescription Routing & Pharmacy Integration
Routing e-prescriptions to the patient's preferred pharmacy network across multiple states with real-time formulary checks.
Our Approach
How We Solved It
Software Pro architected IllnessRx as a three-tier platform: a patient-facing mobile app (iOS and Android), a provider-facing web clinical portal, and a backend infrastructure built on HIPAA-compliant AWS services. We built a state-aware routing engine that applied the correct regulatory ruleset for each provider-patient consultation based on patient location. The credentialing system automated license verification via NPPES and state medical board APIs, and the e-prescribing integration connected to a national pharmacy network.
What We Built
Key Features & Deliverables
Patient Health Dashboard
Unified patient view of consultations, prescriptions, and health records across all interactions.
Secure Video Consultations
HIPAA-compliant video calls with session recording consent and end-to-end encryption.
E-Prescribing
Real-time prescription routing to patient's preferred pharmacy via national network integration.
State-Aware Compliance Engine
Automatically applies the correct telemedicine rules for each provider-patient jurisdiction pair.
Provider Credentialing
Automated license verification, malpractice checks, and state authorization management.
HIPAA Data Infrastructure
BAA-covered AWS infrastructure with full audit logging, encryption at rest and in transit.
How We Work
Our Process
Regulatory Mapping & Legal Review
Mapped telemedicine regulations across target states with healthcare counsel before designing any system architecture.
Compliant Infrastructure Design
Designed a BAA-covered AWS infrastructure blueprint with full HIPAA technical safeguards before writing code.
Three-Tier Platform Engineering
Built the patient mobile apps, provider web portal, and secure backend simultaneously with shared API contracts.
EHR & Pharmacy Connections
Integrated with major EHR platforms via FHIR APIs and connected the e-prescribing system to a national pharmacy network.
State-by-State Rollout
Launched in one anchor state, validated compliance operations, then expanded systematically to additional states.

Results & Impact
What We Delivered
IllnessRx launched its clinical network across multiple US states on schedule. The state-aware compliance engine eliminated the manual work previously required to route consultations correctly, reducing operational overhead significantly. Provider credentialing time dropped from weeks to days with the automated verification system. The platform now supports a growing network of licensed providers serving patients daily, with IllnessRx citing the technical infrastructure as a key enabler of their state expansion strategy.
"The team delivered a secure and compliant healthcare app our medical network depends on daily. Their understanding of HIPAA requirements and healthcare workflows was outstanding. They thought like clinicians as much as engineers."
