We are considering GCP for our data and AI workloads. Is that actually the right call versus AWS or Azure?

For analytics and AI specifically, often yes. BigQuery is the most mature serverless data warehouse on the market, with separation of compute and storage that has worked at scale for a decade. Vertex AI ties model training and serving cleanly to BigQuery and Cloud Storage. Looker is now first-class for BI. The honest counterpoint: GCP's broader product surface is smaller than AWS's, the enterprise sales experience is less mature, and the hiring market for senior GCP engineers is tighter. For a data-and-AI-first product, GCP is genuinely competitive; for everything-else, AWS or Azure usually win.

We want BigQuery, Vertex AI, and Looker as our analytics stack. How do you architect that for our company?

The reference architecture we ship has BigQuery as the warehouse with separate datasets per domain, Dataform or dbt for transformation pipelines, Pub/Sub plus Dataflow for streaming ingestion, Cloud Composer (managed Airflow) for batch orchestration, Vertex AI for model training and serving with feature store integration into BigQuery, and Looker for BI with LookML modeling the semantic layer. IAM and VPC Service Controls keep regulated data inside compliance boundaries. We deliver the architecture, paved-road templates, and the runbooks your team uses after handoff.

We are already on GKE and Cloud Run. How do you optimize a GCP-native architecture for cost and reliability?

Three habits. Move workloads to the right service: stateless web apps belong on Cloud Run (scale-to-zero, no cluster overhead) unless they need features GKE provides; long-running services and stateful workloads belong on GKE Autopilot. Commit to Committed Use Discounts for steady compute (1-year or 3-year commits, typically 30 to 60 percent savings). Right-size everything: most GKE node pools and Cloud SQL instances are oversized. For reliability we deploy across regions where the SLA justifies the cost, with Cloud Load Balancing handling failover.

We need to integrate GCP with our existing AWS or Azure setup. Is multi-cloud actually workable?

Workable, yes; cheap or simple, no. The practical pattern is to pick one cloud as primary and use the other for the workloads where it genuinely wins (often GCP for BigQuery and Vertex AI, AWS for the rest). We connect them through Cloud Interconnect or Partner Interconnect for low-latency private networking, federate identity through Workload Identity Federation so service accounts work across clouds, and move data through Storage Transfer Service or Pub/Sub plus equivalents. Cross-cloud data transfer cost is the line item that surprises people; we model it during scoping.

Our team is small and we want managed services over running infrastructure. Does GCP serverless fit better than the others?

For a small team that wants to build product instead of operating infrastructure, GCP serverless is genuinely strong. Cloud Run for web services (scale-to-zero, pay-per-request, no cluster), Cloud Functions for event handlers, Firestore or AlloyDB for data, BigQuery for analytics, Cloud Build for CI/CD, Cloud Storage for files, Pub/Sub for messaging. The whole stack composes with one IAM model and one billing line. We have shipped full products on this stack with two-engineer teams. The trade-off is GCP lock-in, which for most early-stage products is a fair trade.
